What if: Performing the operation "Set Azure context" on target "Production".
Practical use and troubleshooting
Practical scenario: Use Set-AzContext when you need to select and verify the Azure subscription and tenant for later commands. Start with one identified target and inspect the returned values before extending the operation to a list. Keep the identity in your report so you can trace each result back to the object or path that produced it.
Common error and fix: A subscription-not-found error can result from using a subscription from another tenant. Inspect the accessible subscriptions and supply the matching tenant and subscription identifiers. In an unattended script, capture this failure with its original error record and record which target failed. An empty result and an unsuccessful query must remain distinguishable in the final report.
See also: Get-AzSubscription. Set-AzContext selects the context used by later Az commands; Get-AzSubscription lists accessible subscriptions. Listing a subscription does not automatically make it the active context. Read the linked command before substituting it; similar names do not imply identical inputs or output.
