How it works
Get-VM feeds each guest into Get-VMSnapshot, which returns the checkpoints belonging to that machine. The projection pairs VMName with the checkpoint name and CreationTime so age is visible per guest.
Adapting it
Filter CreationTime against a cutoff to reduce this to genuinely old checkpoints, and sort ascending so the oldest offender sits at the top rather than buried in the middle.
Requirements
Hyper-V PowerShell module and Hyper-V Administrators membership.
If the result is unexpected
A checkpoint report has unexpected ages or omits a VM.
The selected host, VM scope and checkpoint type determine the returned set.
- Inspect checkpoints for one known VM and compare creation times and identifiers.
Validate the result
Each row identifies the host, VM and checkpoint rather than only a display name.
Keep the check reliable
Review checkpoint age with the workload owner before removal.
