What if: Performing the operation "New GPO" on target "Default Domain Policy".

    Practical use and troubleshooting

Practical scenario: Use New-GPO when you need to create a Group Policy object and verify its GUID before linking it. Start with one identified target and inspect the returned values before extending the operation to a list. Keep the identity in your report so you can trace each result back to the object or path that produced it.

Common error and fix: A duplicate display name can cause confusion even if creation succeeds. Use the returned GUID, confirm the intended domain and inspect the object before linking or editing it. In an unattended script, capture this failure with its original error record and record which target failed. An empty result and an unsuccessful query must remain distinguishable in the final report.

See also: Get-GPO. New-GPO creates a Group Policy object; Get-GPO inspects an existing one. Creating a GPO does not link it to an OU or configure any policy settings inside it. Read the linked command before substituting it; similar names do not imply identical inputs or output.
