What if: Performing the operation "Set Group Policy link" on target "Default Domain Policy".

    Practical use and troubleshooting

Practical scenario: Use Set-GPLink when you need to change GPO link order, enforcement and enabled state for a target OU. Start with one identified target and inspect the returned values before extending the operation to a list. Keep the identity in your report so you can trace each result back to the object or path that produced it.

Common error and fix: A missing link is not created by changing its settings. Verify the target distinguished name and existing link first; create a new link through the appropriate cmdlet when that is the intended task. In an unattended script, capture this failure with its original error record and record which target failed. An empty result and an unsuccessful query must remain distinguishable in the final report.

See also: Get-GPO. Set-GPLink changes an existing GPO link's settings; Get-GPO inspects the GPO. Link order, enforcement and enabled state belong to the link rather than the policy object alone. Read the linked command before substituting it; similar names do not imply identical inputs or output.
