What is ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName?
Documentation: Microsoft Learn
ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName binds pipeline objects by property name — test the binding rule.
Overview
QUIZ
Core PowerShell · Question 4 of 12
Explanation
It binds a parameter using a matching property name on incoming pipeline objects.
Apply the reasoning
A parameter declared with ValueFromPipelineByPropertyName can receive the value of a matching property on an incoming object, subject to PowerShell’s binding rules and conversion. This is useful when a record already exposes the target parameter name.
Why the other choices fail
It does not pass the whole command line as a string. Binding by value is a different mechanism from binding by property name. The binder does not rename source properties automatically. Inspect the incoming object and the receiving command’s parameter metadata; a similarly named property with an incompatible type can still fail binding.
